The title of the Oklahoma State Quarter design is "Scissortail Flycatcher." The Scissortail Flycatcher is the State Bird of Oklahoma, and is depicted flying above a field of flowers called "Indian Blanket" (the Oklahoma State Wildflower.) The design for Oklahoma Quarter was created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Master Designer Susan Gamble, and engraved by U.S. Mint Sculptor/Engraver Phebe Hemphill.
I have never seen a bird like this, with tail feathers extending so far behind it, but I can imagine that it must be beautiful in flight! As for the flowers called "Indian Blanket," are these native to India, or should they be properly called "Native American Blanket?" (Okay, I'm being facetious, they are named in honor of Native Americans, but they just look like daisies to my non-botanically trained mind.) I think this is a lovely design, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out on the actual coin.
