Proof coins are supposed to be the most beautiful coins made by the Mint. Great care is taken in the preparation of the dies and planchets, and each coin is struck multiple times to ensure a nice strike. The Proof coins are handled very carefully so they don't get scratches and dings on them. And Proof coins are inspected multiple times during their journey through the Mint's post-strike counting, encapsulation, and final packaging process, so the chances of Proof error coins getting out of the Mint should be pretty small. However, among the many hundreds of thousands of Proof sets issued by the Mint, the occasional error coin does sneak past, and this photo gallery will show you some of the most spectacular among the 2007 Proof Presidential Dollar series.
