This Washington Proof Presidential Dollar was found by D. Fisk in Windsor Locks, CT. As the photo shows, something seems to have gotten in the way of the dies when they came together to strike this coin! Error coins expert, and President of CONECA Mike Diamond says that the planchet, (prepared coin blank,) was damaged somehow before being struck. As Mike explains it, "The planchet was damaged at some point prior to the strike, and a fang-like prong of metal was gouged up. It was then struck into the planchet." The next two images show the same coin from slightly different ranges. It is certainly a noticeable error, which makes one wonder how it got past all of the U.S. Mint's Proof coin inspectors.
