Slider Marks - What are Slider Marks on a Coin?

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Slider marks are fine, light, nearly hairline scratches across the high points of a coin's devices, caused by sliding them in and out of plastic-covered album slots, mylar coin flips, or from coming in contact with other damaging surfaces that scratch the coin.
Examples: Most people don't realize that they can damage their coins with slider marks just by placing them in fancy coin albums and using the plastic sliders that cover the coins.
