Roosevelt Clad Dime Values & Prices

How Much Is My Roosevelt Clad Dime (1965-Date) Worth?

This guide will tell you how much your Roosevelt Clad Dimes minted from 1965 to the present are worth.  The table below provides average coin values and prices based upon the condition of the coin.  If the coin shows signs of wear on it due to being used in commerce, it is considered "circulated." If it was never used in commerce, then it is classified as "uncirculated." The pictures below illustrate examples of each condition

Introduction to Coin Values

There are many factors that go into determining the value of your coins. First of all you must recognize how the coin market works. If a coin dealer runs out of 1995-W Roosevelt dimes, he cannot just call the mint and order more of them because the mint does not make coins dated 1995 anymore. The coin dealer must replenish his inventory by buying coins from other dealers or people who come into his store to sell their coins. What he pays you for that coin is known as the "wholesale price" or "value." If you want to buy that 1995-W from the coin dealer, that is known as the "retail price" or "price."

Market Analysis

Roosevelt dimes are still made for circulation by the United States Mint. The current coin is made with a copper and nickel clad alloy.  Up until 1964, dimes were made with 90% silver. If you want to get the most money for your Roosevelt clad dime collection, you need to sort them and organize them so the dealer can quickly see what you have.

Key Dates, Rarities and Varieties

In 1982 a die was made for a Roosevelt dime without the required "P" mint mark. A "1982 No P Mint Mark" coin is worth considerable more than regular 1982 Philadelphia mint dimes.  As such, this coin is frequently counterfeit or altered from common 1982-P dimes.  Therefore, you should have the coin authenticated by a reputable coin dealer or third party grading service.

Mint Marks

Roosevelt Clad Dimes were produced at three different mints: Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (D), San Francisco (S) and West Point (W).  As illustrated in the picture below, the mint mark is located on the obverse of the coin, near the lower right side above the date.

Roosevelt Clad Dimes Average Prices and Values

The following table lists the buy price (what you can expect to pay to a dealer when you buy the coin) and sell value (what you can expect a dealer to pay you if you sell the coin). The first column lists the date and mint mark (see the photo above) followed by the buy price and the sell value for an average circulated Roosevelt clad dime.  The next two columns list the buy price and the sell value for an average uncirculated. These are approximate values and prices and the actual offer that you will receive from a particular coin dealer will vary depending on the actual grade of the coin and a number of other factors.
