This guide is intended to give you an idea of how much you should pay to a coin dealer to purchase a 50 State Quarters, District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters minted between 1999 to 2009 . The catalog prices below provides average coin prices dealers charge based upon the condition of the coin. If the coin has wear on it from being used in commerce, it considered "circulated." If it was never used, then it is classified as "uncirculated." The pictures below illustrate examples of each condition.

Introduction to Coin Prices
There are many factors that go into determining the price that a dealer charges for coins. An understanding of how the coin market works will help you. If the coin dealer runs out of 2005-P Minnesota State Quarters, he cannot just call the mint and order more of them because the mint does not make coins dated 2005 anymore. The coin dealer must replenish his supply by buying coins from other dealers or people off the street. What he pays you for that coin is known as the "wholesale price" or "value." If you want to buy that 2005-P Minnesota State Quarter from the coin dealer, that is known as the "retail price" or "price."
Key Dates, Rarities and Varieties
The following State Quarters in any grade, are worth considerable more than common State Quarters. As such, these coins maybe frequently counterfeit or altered from common State Quarters. Therefore, before you start celebrating your new found riches, have the coin authenticated by a reputable coin dealer or third party grading service.

Mint Marks
State Quarters were produced at three different mints: Philadelphia (P), Denver (D) and San Francisco (S). As illustrated in the picture below, the mint mark is located on the obverse side of the coin to the right of George Washington's ponytail and below the motto "In God We Trust".

State and U.S. Territory Quarters Average Prices
The following table lists the price (what you can expect to pay a dealer) for you to obtain a State or U.S. Territory Quarter. The first column lists the date, mint mark (see the photo above) and state/territory followed by the price of an average circulated ("Avg Circ") coin and the average price for an uncirculated ("Avg Unc") one. These are approximate values and the actual price that a particular dealer charges will vary depending on the actual grade of the coin and a number of other factors.
