The U.S. Mint issues a wide selection of special sets each year, such as Proof Sets, Uncirculated Coin Sets, sets containing only certain types such as Presidential Dollars or America the Beautiful QuartersTM, and sometimes special sets comprised of single-issue commemorative coins. Most of these Mint sets have had lackluster appreciation in value over the years. Others, though, have skyrocketed quickly and remained at high levels for years. Do you know which Mint sets are the best buys, the ones mostly likely to be big winners from the investment perspective?

I have followed your advise Sue, although it has been a long time for me since i’ve made a purchase from the mint. The rule that you stated applies. Buy what you can “only” get in a mint set. That has more potential in the long run for appreciation. Value wise. I go by what my gut tells me, if i like something then i will buy it. If not i pass. That hasen’t always worked out the best for me. I still like that way the best becuase that is what i’m most comfortable with. That and some good guess work.
Also the size of the production run kelps some when making decisions when buying.

Susan, I find your articles so helpful. I have learned so much from you. I signed up for your coin letters several years ago. since then I have recommended them to my coin collecting friends. I want to learn all I can “about.coins” and you can teach me. Thank you.
