Major Penny Announcement Monday
The U.S. Mint will make a major announcement about the new U.S. Cent design on Monday morning. The penny, which hasn't had a substantive obverse ("heads" side) design change in nearly 100 years, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2009 with four new reverse designs. Even the reverse ("tails") is quite long-lived, at 50 years, with the design change from the Wheat Cent style to the Lincoln Memorial style having occurred in 1959. At 10:00 am ET Monday, the Mint will make the new reverse designs public, and I'll have them for you right here as soon after the unveiling as is practical. In the mean time, read up some Lincoln Cent history!
