Have you ever considered beginning a coin collection for a child or grandchild? Most coin collectors collect primarily for themselves, although they might have a vague notion that a certain someone in the family might receive or inherit the coins someday. But what if you want to get a child interested in collecting? Or you'd like to "set aside" something coin-related for the grand-kids? My article about collecting coins for children has some tips on how to get started.

I have started both Lincoln cent and 50 State (and now the DC/Territories) Quarter book collections for both my son and daughter, to mixed reviews. The daughter often asks to see her ’silver’ and ‘copper’ coins, and enjoys using various British coins in some of her play (she is still in her ‘princess’ phase).
I am doing my best to foster her interest without pushing too hard. I hope she will continue to take to coin collecting, and become a worthy heir to the various sets that I have acquired or inherited from grandparents and my mother.

Your article provides such valuable advice – I never thought about how important it would be to store the coins in a safety deposit box to prevent theft.
