How Much is a Blank Coin Worth?
Saturday June 21, 2008
The question about how much blank coins are worth is one of the top ten FAQs I get, so I put together a page explaining more about your blank coin. Although this might seem to be a simple question with a simple answer, you might be surprised at the variety of things that can happen, at the Mint or otherwise, to result in blank coins showing up in circulation. For example, whether your blank coin has a reeded edge or not says a lot about its origin. It is impossible for a blank coin with a reeded edge to leave the U.S. Mint, because the reeded edge is created as the devices are struck. Therefore, if your blank coin has the reeding, someone either removed the devices, or your coin may not be entirely blank, but just very, very weakly struck.
Learn more about blank coins and the types they come in, how to tell exactly what kind of blank coin you have, and whether it has any value, in my article called How Much is a Blank Coin Worth?
