Two Eagles and No Lady

Monday April 7, 2008
I get a lot of questions about the strange coins people come across, but this one was quite interesting. A reader by the name of Lauren S. wrote to ask about a Morgan Dollar that had two eagles and no lady. As she explains in her email:

I have a coin that has a Morgan eagle on both sides with no lady. Have you heard of such?

It turns out that there are four possibilities as to what Lauren's coin might be. Can you guess what they are? Think about it for a minute, and when you think you might have the answers, check to see if you're right in Two Eagles and No Lady. (Hint: If you get 2 out of 4 correct, consider yourself a coin trivia expert!)

I’m curious. Off the top of my head, could it be a Maria Theresa Thaler … silver trade dollar?
