ANA National Money Show Opens in Phoenix
Friday March 7, 2008
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is hosting its annual Spring convention, the National Money Show, in Phoenix, AZ this weekend. The show opened this morning at 10:00 am to much fanfare, as the ANA made an eagerly-awaited announcement during the ribbon cutting festivities: they announced who will be the new Executive Director! According to Numismaster.com, the ANA Board of Directors made the appointment at a board meeting held yesterday, March 6. Long-time ANA member coin dealer Larry J. Shepherd, the owner of a coin business by the name of Simco Numismatics, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, will take over the reigns of the organization as soon as the employment contract can be drawn up by the ANA counsel. Numismaster cites Shepherd's experience both as a coin dealer and a businessman as part of the reason why the ANA Board made him their choice.
The ANA National Money Show is one of the most important coin shows of the year, drawing hundreds of coin dealers to its bourse. In addition to the commerce end of things, there are numerous free talks and presentations given, including the one that will be offered by the Professional Numismatists Guild tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:00 noon entitled, "The History of U.S. Paper Money and How to Collect It."
