U.S. Mint Web Site is Back to Normal

Wednesday January 23, 2008
Ed F., a reader in Florida, reports that the U.S. Mint Web site Ecommerce functions have been restored. I am very relieved that this saga is over, because the rumors were starting to get bizarre (and my email box was going crazy with people hoping to confirm this or that strange tale.) One of the more persistent rumors concerned the Mint's Deputy CIO Jay Manahand having fired the Mint's Ecommerce contractor, with the result that the contractor then refused to turn over the Mint's computer code and files. This explanation doesn't exactly contradict my own account of the Mint's Web site outage as confirmed by a U.S. Mint executive, but if true, it certainly adds a new dimension! As soon as more information is available, I'll post it here.
