Top 10 Coin-Related Web Sites

I have close to 1,000 coin-related Web sites in my browser's bookmark file, mostly of smaller coin dealers and single collector sites where someone is showcasing their treasures. Although I have thought about doing a Top Coin Sites list for awhile now, what held me back was deciding what to include. There are just so many really great coin collector Web sites out there that it seems unfair to omit some of them from a list such as this, but in the end, I finally devised a formula for the ranking that I could live with - a "best of the best" sort of approach.
I established a few rough category ideas: eBay alternatives/dealer sites, coin discussion forums, coin blogs/news-related, price guides/valuation sites, collection management software/sites, specialty sites, etc. Each category will eventually have its own Top 10 list someday, but for now, I tried to pick the absolute best for each category, and explain a little about the site and why I chose it.
Some of the sites might surprise you, as they could be perceived of as being my competitors. But truly, I can only do so much as a one-woman show, and where others have excelled, whether I cover the area or not, why should I deprive you, my reader, the additional insight and information of a fellow coin collecting enthusiast?
Hopefully there will be a few sites on the list that you've never heard of! If lists of great sites only included sites you already knew about, where is the value in that? Even with the sites you have heard of, perhaps I explain a new way to use the site (such as cyber-cherrypicking using the wonderful, large, clear photos at Heritage Auction Galleries' Web site.)
As I note in the introduction to the list itself, the actual ranking of the site on the list isn't as important as the fact that the site made the list at all. They are all Number One in their own categories, but since I had to start somewhere, you'll find that the Number One site this year is the perfect home for any coin collector, total newbie or seasoned expert: a community site.
