Free Presidential Dollar Promotional Items
Tuesday May 8, 2007
We all know that the new U.S. Presidential Dollar coins aren't likely to circulate very much, at least until the U.S. government gets rid of the $1 paper money. This fact isn't preventing the U.S. Mint from pulling out a lot of stops to promote the new dollar series, though! One of the coolest of these promotional efforts is the distribution of free Presidential Dollar posters, brochures, stickers, coin collecting boards, and other free swag. The Mint will even pay the postage to send this stuff to you!So, who qualifies? It seems that anybody who can distribute the materials is entitled to request them. This includes the obvious, such as bank personnel and storekeepers, but it would be nice if others pitched in to help increase awareness and circulation of these fascinating coins. Are you a schoolteacher? Your students would probably love the coin collecting boards, which have holes in them for each of the four Presidential Dollars being issued this year. Do you belong to a coin club? Why not request a set of everything, one for each member of your club, and pass along the information about how to get more of the same so that any merchants or businessmen in the club can help spread the word. I noticed the Presidential Dollar promotional brochures on the counter at my local doctor's office last week! Just about anybody can join in the fun!
One word of caution might be in order, though, if you're just a collector wanting some free swag for yourself. This literature isn't likely to become collectible any time soon. Similar stuff was prepared in vast amounts for the release of the Sacagawea Dollar, and there isn't any market for it now as collectors' items. I could maybe see the coin board becoming a collectible in ten years or so, but the rest of it probably won't be worth much more than the paper it's printed on for at least fifty years, so save yourself some closet space (and save the taxpayers some money) and only order the free Presidential Dollar promotional stuff if you can really distribute it.
