The Faceless Dollar Joins the Growing List of Major Washington Dollar Errors

Wednesday March 14, 2007
Blank Presidential Dollar With Edge Lettering! It took the Godless Dollars for the mainstream media to take notice of the new Washington Presidential Dollars. Soon we had the Buffy Dollars (fake "missing edge lettering" dollars) and now someone has found what most of us considered to be the Holy Grail of the Presidential Dollar error hunting game: a blank planchet with edge lettering! So far, the coin is unique, and has been certified as genuine by PCGS, so if you find another blank dollar that has the edge lettering but nothing else on it, please email me! I will help you through the steps of getting the most value for your coin. You can learn the details in the original Faceless Dollar PCGS press release.

Other important new Washington Dollar errors reported and confirmed include:
  • Rotated die axis (about 93% rotated)

  • Missing clad layer before striking (reverse)

  • Partially skipped edge lettering (normal lettering but sections missing)

So far, errors I haven't seen yet are a confirmed Doubled Die Obverse (DDO) or Doubled Die Reverse (DDR) error. The reverse on these coins is especially prone to mechanical doubling, so while the false reports doubled die specimens have been numerous, none have been confirmed (that I know of yet) as true hub doubling. If you have, or know of a confirmed Presidential Dollar DDO or DDR please let me know, as there are thousands of us out there hunting for that elusive "Discovery Specimen" credit. =)
