Every so often, someone comes along who thinks they can manage the economy and monetary system better than the U.S. Treasury Department. These folks carry on various activities, from legal lobbying efforts to minting their own currency and encouraging people to use it. The folks from an organization called NORFED have taken this to an extreme, however. They have created a very deceptive coinage that carries some of the same inscriptions that genuine U.S. currency carries. The NORFED coins are called Liberty Dollars. They have been made in several denominations from $1 to $20, and NORFED is encouraging merchants and concerned citizens to use this "money" instead of U.S. legal tender when engaging in normal commerce. Besides being against the law to use in commerce, (Title 18 U.S.C. § 486,) these coins worry me because there will be enough confusion already with four new dollar coin designs expected next year in the Presidential Dollar series, and both coins feature elements of the Statue of Liberty as main devices. Find out what you need to know to protect yourself against the new Liberty Dollars deception.

i think you missed the point of NORFED by light years. tsk tsk. The great deception is in your wallets right now.
Definitely an interesting topic. There is an interesting conversation brewing at Coin Community about it also.
Since when has the US Treasury done a good job of managing the currency…since about 1835, actually. Susan is a numismatist, not a student of money. Since 2001 the US Dollar has lost nearly half of its value. The poor fools who think they have made money on the stock market haven’t factored in the declining value of the dollar. Silver, on the other hand, has “increased” in value vis-a-vis the US Dollar because more US dollars are needed to buy one ounce of silver. Knowing something about numismatics is not the same as understanding money. A little of history would be helpful. I’d recommend Secrets of the Federal Reserve by Eustace Mullens.
Every fiat currency has inflated into oblivion, and it is happening to the US dollar right now. How long before hyper-inflation becomes a household word in Amercia? NORFED coins are real silver. The current US minted coins are the fruad.
