Safely Storing Your Coin Collection

Thursday April 17, 2014

Coin Storage and Supplies Many coin collectors have already taken the time to house their collection in folders and albums. But, if you do not store your folders and albums in the proper environment your coins may still get damaged. Even though coins are made of metal, and metal is very tough, coins can still be damaged from some harsh environmental factors. If you understand what these factors are and how they affect coins, you can select a place to safely store your collection where it will not get damaged.

I've written an guide that explains how you can safely store your coin collection. Additionally, you will understand which environmental factors can damage your coins and select a safe location to store your collection so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come.

A Guide to American Eagle Gold and Platinum Coins

Tuesday April 15, 2014

American Gold and Platinum Eagles Coin Book Retired director of the United States Mint, Edmund C. Moy has authored an authoritative guide on the American Gold and Platinum Eagle bullion coin program. Moy was director of the United States Mint from 2006 until 2011. In this book, he shares his unique insights and perspective on the gold and platinum bullion market. Not only are these coins used as an investment in tangible assets, but they are also prized and highly collected by numismatists. My book review will help you decide if this book will be an appropriate addition to your numismatic library.

Collecting Guide to Standing Liberty Quarters

Thursday April 10, 2014

Standing Liberty QuarterPersonally, I think the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle $20 gold piece is the most beautiful coin that United States Mint has ever made. Right behind that is the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Standing Liberty quarter. The Standing Liberty quarter has always intimidated me. There are a couple of "showstoppers" even in a simple date collection of these beautiful coins. Even if you are looking for just a single type coin that is well struck, that too can also presented its own challenges.

Regardless if you are a seasoned collector of Standing Liberty quarters or you have just discovered this beautiful United States coin series, I have assembled several collecting guides to help you get started or hone your collecting skills.

Collecting United States Commemorative Coins

Saturday April 5, 2014

United States Commemorative CoinWith all the recent publicity regarding the launch of the 2014 Baseball Hall Of Fame Commemorative Coins, I have received a number of inquiries from coin collectors and non-collectors alike regarding the "collectability" of United States commemorative coins. Coin collectors, who were intrigued by the universal appeal of baseball, were interested in other United States commemorative coins. I also received a number of inquiries regarding the investment potential of modern U.S. Commemorative coins.

My standard answer to people who ask my opinion as to whether they should collect a particular coin series is, "Collect what you like and you will never be disappointed." When you complete the series or are no longer interested in it, you can then sell your collection and recover some, if not all or even more, of what you originally purchased it for. Most collectors of modern United States commemorative coins focus on the commemorative silver dollars. You will see that a majority of these modern U.S. commemorative silver dollars are reasonably priced.
